Butter chicken? “Ohhh! That’s perfect “

Butter chicken is a north Indian dish which was accidentally discovered at a hotel in Delhi (the capital of India). And then after, this recipe become one of the core dishes in the Indian menu card.

So before getting to cooking let us first understand that BUTTER CHICKEN has two to be cooked in two parts

1. The gravy

2. Grilled chicken

So let’s not waste waste time, come let me show you the process in a scientific way 😜


To prepare butter chicken

(for 1 kg chicken)

Apparatus (ingredients) :

For Gravy

  • 1/2 medium size chopped onion
  • 8-10 medium size tomatoes
  • 1 tbps oil
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 black cardamom, 4 green cardmom
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 Star anise
  • 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder
  • Piece of cinnamon
  • 7 tbsp butter
  • 1 mace
  • 10-12 cashew nuts
  • 2 tbsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp fenugreek leafs
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 2 dry red chilli’s & 1 green chilli
  • 1 tbsp garam masala
  • Most imp salt as per taste

For grilled chicken

(chicken tandoori)

  • 1 kg chicken
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1.5 tbsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder
  • Cup of curd
  • Garman masala
  • 2 green cardamom
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp salt

“Marinate the chicken with all the mentioned ingredients and keep it in a cold place for an hour”

  1. Marinate 1 kg chicken with chilli powder, turmeric powder, curd, lemon juice, salt, garman masala. Also do add cardamom to it just to add flavor. And keep it for 1 hour.
  2. In a pan add 3/4 of water. Add all the spices 2 bay leafs, 2 black cardamom, 4 green cardamom, a piece of cinnamon, 4 cloves, 1 mace, 1 star anise. Now add roughly slit chopped tomatoes. Add chopped onion, cashew nuts, 1 tbsp oil, 2 tbsp dry red chilli, salt as per taste. And at last add 2 tbsp of butter. Cover the pan and let it cook.
  3. Now turn off the gas and let the it cool. While your cooked stuff gets cool lets do the most grill your most beloved thing yess!! The 🐔 . So take a grill pan or even any non-stick pan would go well. Get apply some butter to the pan. Take a pinch and grill the marinated chicken. So know you are all good with you chicken tandoori….
  4. Hey I forgot to tell you the most important apparatus is the mixture!! So now put the tomatoes cooked in the mixture to make a fine paste or which we say the tomato puree.
  5. Now after you prepare the purey make sure to filter the purey to remove the seeds and all raw things. Now in a big vessel add the remaining butter and also 1 tbsp oil. Now add 1 chopped green chilli and 2 tbsp ginger garlic paste. Now add the purey. To these add 1.5 tbsp chilli powder. 1 tbsp garam masala, 1&1/2 tbsp honey(just to balance the spiciness)
  6. Cook the gravy well, 0hhhh! Don’t forget salt (as per your tongue 😜) .Add the fenugreek leafs, also add 3/4 cup of cream. Now Add grilled chicken to the gravy.

Now you are all done just cook for five more mins to get the results.


  • The butter chicken truely reflects the Indian spicy flavour.
  • The butter chicken really tastes good with a nan or a roti.

Conclusion :

Butter chicken it’s the most amazing dish to try at home.

Garnish it with the remaining cream and also with coriander. And serve it hot with a nan or also a roti.
